The results of our Institute’s researchers’ participation in a consortium studying obesity have been published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature
Researchers from the State Institution «Marzieiev Institute for Public Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine», Doctor of Medical Sciences Alina PLATONOVA and Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Igor SHKROBANETS, participated in a global scientific study on obesity carried out under the leadership of Imperial College London.
This extremely important study resulted in a scientific article published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature.

The authors presented a new analysis of global obesity trends since the 1980s, which clearly demonstrates that the rise in obesity rates has slowed, stabilized, and may even have reversed in many countries, calling into question the notion of a “global obesity epidemic.”
The study, conducted by researchers led by Imperial College London through the Noncommunicable Disease Risk Factors Collaboration (NCDRisC) and published in the journal Nature, examined health data spanning more than four decades from 200 countries and territories, covering the period from 1980 to 2024.
The findings, presented at a meeting of experts from around the world at the European Congress on Obesity (ECO 2026) in Istanbul this month, paint a more optimistic picture of progress than previously reported.
They show that the rise in obesity rates has slowed or stabilized in most high-income countries, despite rapid growth in the late 20th century, initially slowing among school-aged children and then slowing among adults about a decade later.
