02.12.2021. Visit of representatives of the experts mission for the Joint External Evaluation of the implementation of IHR capabilities in Ukraine (Kiev, Ukraine, 11/29/2021 – 03/12/2021) to the State Institution “O.M. Marzieiev Institute for Public Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”
The national and international teams met together in Kyiv to have IHR joint external evaluation in Ukraine. A year of preparations and time to agree key areas for further focus. Also an opportunity to learn from COVID, past disease outbreaks and other risks to have resilient public health system.
The visit of the representatives of the experts mission for the Joint External Evaluation began on November 29, 2021 and the stay program included a discussion of the results of the External Evaluation by national and international teams of experts to conduct a common external evaluation in Ukraine to identify key issues for further focus in order to have a sustainable system.
For almost a year, the staff of the State Institution “Institute of Public Health named after O.M. Ukraine in the following sections of the IHR:
- Coordination, communication and advocacy on the IHR
- Antimicrobial resistance
- Food safety
- Biosecurity and biosecurity
- National laboratory network
- Human resources
- Interaction between health and security authorities
- Communication of risks
- Chemical threats
- Points of intersection
- Radiation threats
During the stay of international experts in Ukraine, offsite meetings were planned, in particular, on December 2, 2021, a team of external experts consisting of: John A Haines, UNITAR, Great Britain, Technical Lead for: Chemical events; Cat McGillycuddy, UK Health Security Agency; Agoritsa Baka, European Center for Development and Control, Greece Technical Lead for: Biosafety and Biosecurity National Laboratory System; Eran Raizman, Food and Agriculture Organization; Timothée Dub, Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare; Mihail Kocubovski, Institute of Public Health of the Republic of North Macedonia, Technical Practice: Linking Public Health and Security Authorities Countermeasures & Personal Deployment visited the State Institution “О.M. Marzieiev Institute for Public Health of the NAMS of Ukraine.”
From the State Institution “Institute of Public Health named after A.M. Marzeeva of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”, the meeting was attended by the Director of the Institute, Academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Prof. Andriy Serdiuk, Deputy Director for Research, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Prof. Nadiia Polka, Deputy Director for Scientific and Practical Work, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Prof. Olena Turos and employees who took part in the general external assessment: Maria Gulich, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Prof., Head of the Laboratory for the prevention of alimentary – dependent diseases; Yurii Skaletskiy, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Prof., Head of the Health Safety Strategies Laboratory; Alina Platonova, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Child Safety lLaboratory; Tetiana,Pavlenko, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Prof., Head of the Radiation Protection Laboratory; Nataliia Ostanina, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Physico-chemical, Microbiological and Toxicological and Hygienic Research, Head of the Quality Control and Product Safety Laboratory; Olena Surmasheva, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Prof., Head of the Laboratories of Sanitary Microbiology and Disinfectology; Alla Gorval, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Scientific Secretary; Olga Rudnitska, Ph.D., Head of the Scientific Coordination Department; Alla Koblianska, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department for Support of State Programs and International Relations; Lyudmil Rusakova, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Head of the Department of Graduate Studies and Internship; Olena Elizarova, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Senior Researcher of the Laboratories for Social Determinants of Children’s Health; Nina Brezytska, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Senior Researcher of the Air Quality Laboratory; Varvara Morguliova, junior researcher of the Air Quality Laboratory.
During the meeting, Deputy Director for Scientific and Practical Work, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Prof. Turos Olena provided detailed information about the Institute, areas of activity, results of international projects and the possibility of the Institute’s employees to take part in the prevention, assessment and response to emergency situations in Ukraine caused by chemical, physical, radiation and other threat.
The information aroused active discussion and high interest of international experts.
Also, international experts visited the Laboratory for Quality Control and Product Safety, accompanied by Ostanina Natalia, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Physicochemical, Microbiological and Toxicological and Hygienic Research and Head of the Laboratory for Quality Control and Product Safety and the Laboratory of Sanitary Microbiology and Disinfectology under the supervision of Olena Surmasheva, Prof., Head of the Laboratory of Sanitary Microbiology and Disinfectology.
At the end of the meeting, international experts were provided with materials covering the activities of the Institute, in particular, the National Review on Biocide Management in Ukraine, the National Review “Endocrine Disruptors in Ukraine: the State of the Problem and Ways to Solve it”, the publication of the journal “Environment and Health”, information booklets and flyers.
