On October 23-24, 2025, a scientific and practical conference with international participation was held on «Current Issues of Public Health and Environmental Safety in Ukraine»
Dear colleagues, partners, and friends!
On October 23-24, 2025, an international scientific and practical conference «Current Issues of Public Health and Environmental Safety in Ukraine» was held, continuing the glorious tradition of the Marzieiev Readings for the 21st time.
This event became a powerful international forum, with leading experts from all over the world joining us: Germany, Japan, Poland, Great Britain, Italy, Serbia, and the Republic of Moldova. Among the honorary speakers were representatives of such authoritative organizations as the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe (Francesca Racioppi), Dokkyo Medical University (Japan), and the University of Surrey (Great Britain). Such geography and level of speakers confirms the recognition of the authority of Ukrainian science and trust in our professional community even in the most difficult times.
More than 1,300 participants registered to attend the conference. More than 450 specialists attended the conference online. The conference program was extremely rich and relevant. Over two days, participants had the opportunity to delve into discussions of more than 30 reports covering virtually all critically important aspects of modern public health:
– Environmental challenges of wartime: soil contamination with heavy metals, destruction of water supply systems, and the impact of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons – these topics were discussed based on real data collected by Ukrainian scientists in active combat conditions.
– Radiation safety: the experiences of Chernobyl, Fukushima, and current threats were analyzed in presentations by experts from Ukraine, Japan, and Moldova. The latest research on radon, radiation doses, and long-term health effects was presented.
– Water hygiene and food safety: separate sections were devoted to drinking water quality, innovative disinfection methods, and food safety measures in conditions of environmental pollution.
– Mental health of the nation: Ukrainian scientists presented the results of studies on the adaptation of the civilian population to conditions of war stress, the formation of coping strategies, and even the influence of genetic factors on the development of PTSD.
– Innovation and the future: The conference also covered such cutting-edge topics as regulating the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare, using biomarkers to assess the impact of air pollution, and polygenic scales for disease prediction.
This is just a small list of the areas that were covered. Each presentation served as a basis for lively discussion, exchange of experience, and the birth of new international research projects.
Hosting a conference of this level is not just an organizational achievement for the State Institution «Marzieiev Institute for Public Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.» It is the result of many years of systematic work, scientific authority, and the unwavering resilience of the Institute’s scientists.
Even in the conditions of martial law, when the health care and ecology systems are under incredible strain, the Institute not only continues its work but also intensifies it, transforming challenges into objects for scientific analysis.
