On January 16, 2026, a technical meeting was held on the implementation in Ukraine of Directive 2020/2184/EU on the quality of water intended for human consumption. The participants of the meeting were: the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, the Embassy of France, the Embassy of Finland, the Embassy of Bulgaria, KfW Germany, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the State Water Agency, the Ukrvodokanalekologiya Association, and experts from the European Union and Ukraine.
As one of the developers of the roadmap for the implementation in Ukraine of Directive 2020/2184/EU on the quality of water intended for human consumption, which was developed with the support of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the head of the surface water safety laboratory, expert on a number of international projects on the implementation of European water legislation in Ukraine, Doctor of Biological Sciences specializing in hygiene and occupational pathology, Olesia Zorina.
In their speeches, the participants of the meeting exchanged views on ways to solve key problems related to the implementation of Directive 2020/2184/EU in Ukraine, in particular the introduction of indicators of the quality of tap drinking water, granting water utilities the right to temporary deviations from regulatory requirements for drinking water quality, implementing a risk-based approach based on the WHO methodology for Water Safety Plans, improving the monitoring of drinking water quality, etc. It was decided to continue working on the gradual implementation of European requirements for the quality of tap drinking water in Ukraine.
