Regarding the creation of a digital platform for monitoring unified indicators in the areas of drinking water, drinking water supply, and wastewater disposal

On September 10, 2025, an online meeting was held between water specialists from water utilities and scientific institutions and representatives of the project management team of the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine on the creation of a digital platform for monitoring unified indicators in the areas of drinking water, drinking water supply, and wastewater disposal. Olesia Zorina, Head of the Laboratory of Surface Water Safety, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Senior Researcher, specializing in hygiene and occupational pathology, expert on international projects for the implementation in Ukraine of Directive 2020/2184/EU on the quality of water intended for human consumption, participated on behalf of the State Institution «Marzieiev Institute for Public Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.»

Olesia Zorina drew the attention of experts to the fact that the «indicator» values according to the Procedure for State Monitoring in the Areas of Drinking Water and Drinking Water Supply (approved by Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 61 of January 21, 2025) do not correspond to the «indicator» parameters specified in Directive 2020/2184/EU. Therefore, today it is necessary to continue moving towards the implementation of Directive 2020/2184/EU, in particular in terms of monitoring. As in EU countries, the main performers of laboratory studies on the safety and quality of drinking water (production control or monitoring) should be drinking water supply companies or, on a contractual basis, a special agency authorized by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, which also processes the data from such monitoring. In particular, public health specialists are experts in assessing the risks to the safety and quality of drinking water. Representatives of the project management team of the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine have planned negotiations with specialists from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with a view to further implementing Directive 2020/2184/EU using a digital platform.
