🔬February 23 – Cushing’s Syndrome Awareness Day

☝️Cushing’s syndrome is a rare but serious endocrine disorder caused by prolonged excess of the hormone cortisol in the body.

👉This condition was first described in 1932 by American neurosurgeon Harvey Cushing, after whom the disease is named. His research laid the foundation for further study of pituitary gland disorders and hormonal regulation.

🩺The symptoms of the syndrome often go unnoticed or are masked by other conditions: weight gain, high blood pressure, muscle weakness, skin changes, and metabolic disorders.

👨‍⚕️That is why early diagnosis is critically important.

🌍This day is intended to draw attention to the problem, raise awareness among doctors and patients, and promote timely detection of the disease.

🇺🇦The National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine supports the development of endocrinology, scientific research, and clinical practice aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases.

🫶Take care of your health and pay attention even to subtle symptoms.

📢Sincerely, Press Service of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine!
