March 15, 2026 🕯️Academician Andriy Mykhailovych Serdyuk of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine has passed away
It is with profound and deep sorrow that we announce that today, at the age of 88, the distinguished Ukrainian statesman and scientist, Academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and long-time director of our Institute, Andriy Mykhailovych SERDYUK, has passed away.
Andriy Mykhailovych was born on December 24, 1938, in the city of Dnipro. Andriy Mykhailovych was a renowned Ukrainian scientist in the fields of medical ecology, hygiene, and social medicine, a Doctor of Medical Sciences, a professor, and an academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. His many years of scientific and administrative work were dedicated to the development of preventive medicine, medical ecology, and the public health system.
Andriy Mykhailovych made a significant contribution to research on the impact of environmental factors on human health and the development of modern, scientifically grounded approaches to public health.
Andriy Mykhailovych SERDYUK served as Minister of Health of Ukraine from 1996 to 1998.
From 2011 to 2015, Andriy Mykhailovych served as President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, and for many years he headed our State Institution «Marzieiev Institute for Public Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine» – where he established a strong scientific school and mentored a whole generation of scientists.
🎖️For his significant contribution to the development of medical science, Andriy Mykhailovych has been honored with numerous national and international awards. He is an Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, a Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, an Honorary Member of the Polish Academy of Medical Sciences, and a Full Member of the Albert Schweitzer International Medical Academy.
Andriy Mykhailovych SERDYUK is the author of numerous scientific papers, monographs, and textbooks that have made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian and global medical science.
The fond memory of Andriy Mykhailovych will forever remain in the hearts of his colleagues, students, and everyone who knew and worked alongside him.
We express our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones and share in the profound grief of the entire medical and scientific community of Ukraine.
