October 29 – World Stroke Day and World Psoriasis Day

❗️Two diagnoses – one goal: to preserve quality of life.
☝️These are not just informational dates – they are reminders of the need to pay attention to your own health, the role of prevention, early detection, and patient support.
❗️Stroke: every minute counts
In Ukraine, more than 120,000 people suffer a stroke every year, and almost half of them die within the first year. But these numbers can be reduced.
✍️A stroke is not a death sentence if you act quickly.
The first 4.5 hours are the “golden window” when medical care can save lives and restore brain function.
Specialists from the Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, the Romodanov Institute of Neurosurgery, the Strazhesko Institute of Cardiology, and the Amosov Center are actively working to improve methods of prevention, early diagnosis, and rehabilitation of stroke patients.
🚨Stroke symptoms that everyone should know:
💡sudden weakness or numbness in one half of the body;
💡slurred speech or loss of speech;
💡vision impairment;
💡facial asymmetry;
💡loss of balance, dizziness.
💬 Advice from NAMS doctors: if you notice these symptoms, don’t waste time, call 103. 🚑
🧠Every minute counts — millions of neurons can be saved.
📌Psoriasis: myths and reality
🩺Psoriasis is not just a skin disease. It is a systemic autoimmune disease that can affect the joints, heart, and even blood vessels.
📊According to WHO estimates, more than 125 million people worldwide live with psoriasis, and about 1.5 million in Ukraine.
Specialists at the Institute of Dermatology and Venereology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine are conducting research into the mechanisms of psoriasis development, developing modern treatment regimens and new forms of biological therapy.
🔬These methods not only reduce the symptoms of the disease, but also restore psychological comfort and social adaptation in patients.
💬 Important to know: psoriasis is not contagious, but it requires constant monitoring.
✅Support, proper skin care, a healthy lifestyle, and regular consultations with a dermatologist are the key to stable remission.
📌Science that heals and inspires
✍️The National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine brings together scientists working on the most complex challenges of modern medicine – from the prevention of cardiovascular disasters to the creation of innovative drugs for the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
🩺Today we remind you:
- health is the shared responsibility of the patient and the doctor;
- prevention is always easier than treatment;
- and knowledge is a force that saves lives.
📌 The National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine urges you to:
🔹 measure your blood pressure and monitor your cholesterol and blood sugar levels;
🔹 take care of your heart and blood vessels;
🔹 do not ignore changes in your skin – they may be the first signs of systemic disorders;
🔹 consult a doctor at the slightest suspicion.
