An introductory working meeting was held on strengthening the medical care and rehabilitation system for military personnel and veterans

📢On November 26, 2026, an introductory meeting was held that is of strategic importance for the development of the medical care and rehabilitation system in Ukraine.

📍The event was attended by representatives of patronage services, commanders, representatives of military medical clinical centers, the Command of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Civil-Military Cooperation Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as heads of institutions of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.

The traditional venue for the meeting was the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.

📍Welcoming speeches and key messages:

Vasyl Lazoryshynets, President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the critical role of the Academy in providing highly specialized medical care to military personnel and veterans:

✍️”Since the start of the full-scale invasion, 289,740 military personnel and veterans have been treated and consulted at NAMSU institutions, and 63,681 defenders have received inpatient medical care, 16,490 of whom had combat injuries. Almost all of the Academy’s institutes are involved in this work. We must join forces to ensure that our defenders have access to advanced medical technologies.”

Taras Matsyuk, advisor to the President of the NAMS of Ukraine, also delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing:

✍️”Our defenders have the right to the highest standards of treatment. We are working to build a transparent and effective model of interaction between the Academy, the National Health Service of Ukraine, military medical structures, and support services. It is our duty to ensure a continuous and high-quality path from treatment to rehabilitation.”

📍Speeches by participants

The following also spoke:

  • Anatoliy Kazmirchuk — Commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
  • Yevheniya Melnyk — Head of the Educational and Training Projects Department of the National Health Service of Ukraine, Head of the Academy of the National Health Service of Ukraine;
  • Andriy Vilenksy — Medical Director of the All-Ukrainian Center for Military Trauma Superhumans Center, Advisor to the Minister of Health of Ukraine;
  • Oksana Korchynska — Volunteer, public figure, People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the VIII convocation.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of patronage services and military formations:

  • Serhiy Tuz — Colonel,
  • Andriy Batika — Major,
  • Dzvinka Sira — representative of the patronage service “Angels of Azov,”
  • Olena Tolkachova — head of the Angels of Azov foster care service, officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
  • Lyudmila Galichina — head of the Charter foster care service of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Representatives of the leadership of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine were also present:

  • Vice President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Major General of the Medical Service – Ihor Lurin,
  • Head of the Department of Medical Work and Interaction with the National Health Service – Serhii Siromakha.

📍Online participation and discussion results

👨‍💻The meeting was held in a mixed format. More than 100 participants joined the online part — directors of NAMS institutions and representatives of military units.
Participants had the opportunity to discuss important issues related to the organization of medical care, share problems, and offer their views on how to solve them.

📍Signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation

During the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and the Special Operations Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The document aims to deepen cooperation between the structures in the field of medical care for the military, expand partnerships, strengthen cooperation in treatment and rehabilitation, and implement modern comprehensive solutions to support SSO soldiers.
