Congratulations to the researchers of the SI «IPH NAMSU» on receiving a diploma from NAMSU for the best research work carried out in 2024
On October 5, 2025, the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine held an award ceremony for the best research projects completed in 2024, which were presented by the President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Academician Vasyl LAZORYSHYNETS. Our institute’s research project «SCIENTIFIC JUSTIFICATION OF WAYS TO MINIMIZE THE FORMATION OF HAZARDOUS CHLORITES AND CHLORATES IN DRINKING WATER WHEN USING CHLORINE DIOXIDE IN WATER TREATMENT,», which was carried out by the Laboratory of Natural and Drinking Water Hygiene together with the Laboratory of Biocides and Toxicology under the leadership of Honored Scientist of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Viacheslav PROKOPOV.

For the first time in Ukraine, based on the results of field and laboratory experimental studies, the work established optimal ecological and hygienic requirements for the use of chlorine dioxide instead of aggressive chlorine in water treatment technologies from surface sources, which does not form highly toxic organochlorine compounds, and substantiates the safety of its by-products in drinking water, in particular the most dangerous chlorites. It has been shown that chlorites in concentrations from 0.2 mg/dm3 (Ukrainian standard) to 0.7 mg/dm3 (WHO standard) do not pose a risk to human health, as confirmed by the results of an internationally recognized foreign methodology for assessing non-carcinogenic risk, and a classic sanitary-toxicological experiment on laboratory animals.
The results of the work have been widely published in many scientific journals, including those indexed in Scopus. At the XXI Marzieiev Readings Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation, the main results of this research work were presented in an integrated form by a group of authors in a report by Viacheslav PROKOPOV entitled «The dangers of chloroform and chlorites in the treatment of drinking water with chlorine and chlorine dioxide for the health of the population.»
The administration and research staff of the Institute congratulate the authors of the research project on receiving this prestigious award.
