We sincerely congratulate Vasyl LAZORYSHYNETS on his election as an Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

Following a secret ballot, Vasyl LAZORYSHYNETS, Full Member of the Scientific Committee, Academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Acting President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Director of the Mykola Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, was elected Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the Department of Biochemistry, Physiology, and Molecular Biology.

On May 1, 2025, a session of the General Meeting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was held, during which elections of Full Members (Academicians) and Corresponding Members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine were held.

In accordance with the decision of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 12 vacancies for academicians and 41 vacancies for corresponding members in 37 specialties were announced for the regular elections. In addition, 10 vacancies for foreign members in 9 specialties were opened.

The distribution of vacancies among departments and the determination of specialties were based on the need to ensure the development of both fundamental and applied research, primarily in those areas where Ukrainian scientists achieve world-class results. At the same time, one of the key conditions for nomination was the presentation of worthy candidates not only from the institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, but also from higher education institutions, industry-specific scientific and scientific-technical institutions of the country.

The high level of competition among candidates attests to the scientific community’s considerable interest in these elections: 32 candidates (2.7 per vacancy) were nominated for 12 vacancies for Academicians, and 137 candidates (3.3 per vacancy) were nominated for 41 vacancies for Corresponding Members.

In accordance with the Statute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the preparation and conduct of the elections took place in conditions of openness and broad discussion of the candidates. During the meetings of the general assemblies of the departments, conditions were provided for the free expression of opinions, discussions, and proposals, which contributed to a well-founded, objective, and independent choice. All departments worked with the support of expert commissions, which formed recommended lists of candidates.

As a result of a secret ballot, 12 academicians and 39 corresponding members were elected to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

We congratulate Vasyl LAZORYSHYNETS and all the elected members on this event and wish them new successes in their scientific activities and in the implementation of important scientific ideas!
