About the Project

(Biocides 2017-2018)

In 2013 the Government of Ukraine represented by the State Institution Institute of Hygiene and Medical Ecology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine with technical input from the WHO prepared and submitted a proposal for the Project Strengthening Capacities for Sound Management of Biocides (pesticides and disinfectants) to Reduce Population Exposure in Ukraine in the 13 round of applications to the Strategic Approach to International Chemical Management (SAICM) Quick Start Program (GSP) Trust Fund. Funding for the 2-year Project was awarded and Project Implementation agreement was signed in March 2017 between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), serving as administrator of QSP Trust Fund, and WHO, the Participating Organization, serving as executing agency.

According to the the frame of UNEP-WHO Implementation agreement is bound to conclude an agreement with the State Institution O.M. Marzeiev Institute for Public Health for the Project implementation at the national level, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and according to the WHO procedures.

The WHO Regional Office for Europe, WHO European Centre for Environment and Health (WHO ECEH) has been implementing a project “Strengthening Capacities for Sound Management of Biocides (pesticides and disinfectants) to Reduce Population Exposure in Ukraine” (Project) in cooperation with the State Institution “OM Marzeiev Institute for Public Health” of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” (SI “IPH NAMSU”). The project developed under the SAICM Quick Start Programme; is funded through the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
