The Report provides an overview of the state of the environment and climate in Ukraine, including air quality, levels of pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions, and the condition of forests, soils, and the marine environment. The analysis is based on studies by the European Joint Research Centre (EU JRC) and other available scientific and statistical sources. For the first time, this study systematizes data that allows for an assessment of the war’s impact on the state of the environment and climate in Ukraine. It includes key guidelines for the country’s recovery. At the same time, the Report provides important information regarding the assessment of Ukraine’s readiness for EU accession, particularly in the context of Chapter 27 of the EU’s environmental acquis. The conclusions presented in this Report are intended to assist in the effective implementation of specific measures to be considered in the planning process, ensuring a sustainable and environmentally responsible approach to Ukraine’s reconstruction.
In recent years, the Institute’s staff has conducted 25 joint international research projects.
