{"id":8895,"date":"2026-08-07T18:56:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T15:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/health.gov.ua\/en\/?page_id=8895"},"modified":"2026-08-07T19:03:34","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T16:03:34","slug":"07-08-2026-the-impact-of-air-raid-sirens-on-stress-levels-among-ukrainian-schoolchildren","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/health.gov.ua\/en\/events\/main-events-of-the-institute-2026\/07-08-2026-the-impact-of-air-raid-sirens-on-stress-levels-among-ukrainian-schoolchildren\/","title":{"rendered":"The Impact of Air Raid Sirens on Stress Levels Among Ukrainian Schoolchildren (date of publication on the website: 07.08.2026)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The Impact of Air Raid Sirens on Stress Levels Among Ukrainian Schoolchildren<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research is ongoing at the State Institution \u00abMarzieiev Institute for Public Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine\u00bb into the impact of war-related factors on the health development of Ukrainian children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since February 24, 2022, the sounds of air raid sirens have become an integral part of Ukrainian schoolchildren\u2019s lives, forcing them to constantly adapt to new conditions. Sirens, designed to trigger the body\u2019s maximum mobilization response (with a volume of up to 135 dB), sound daily across Ukraine. At the same time, the prolonged mobilization of the body\u2019s resources leads to a deterioration in both physical and mental health. Research by specialists from the Health Promotion Department helps us understand how this prolonged stressor affects the psycho-emotional state of children in different parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The results of an analysis of a survey of more than 16,000 parents of schoolchildren from all regions of Ukraine show that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>31.9% of schoolchildren exhibit a moderate level of stress during periods of anxiety. 13.9% of children experience high levels of stress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Children with chronic illnesses and symptoms of anxiety or depression are the most vulnerable \u2013 they react much more acutely to sounds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The study did not reveal any statistically significant differences in reactions based on gender, age, or region of residence, indicating that the impact of stress on children is universal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Practical Recommendations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An individualized approach is essential for effectively supporting the mental health of school-age children, especially those in at-risk groups (those with chronic illnesses or symptoms of anxiety and depression).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teachers and parents should teach children self-regulation and help them become aware of their own reactions in stressful environments.
