Researchers from the Institute participated in the International Scientific and Practical Conference \u00ab40 Years Since the Chernobyl Disaster: Consequences, Challenges, and Threats\u00bb<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Scientists from the State Institution \u00abMarzieiev Institute for Public Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine\u00bb participated in the International Scientific and Practical Conference \u00ab40 Years Since the Chernobyl Disaster: Consequences, Challenges, and Threats,\u00bb<\/em><\/strong> held in Kyiv on April 25\u201326, 2026, under the patronage of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. The conference brought together leading domestic scientists, representatives of the medical community, and international partners for a substantive scientific discussion of the long-term consequences of the Chernobyl disaster and current challenges in the field of radiation safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plenary presentation by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Igor SHKROBANETS<\/strong>, and Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Olena TUROS<\/strong>, on the topic: \u00abThe experience of the Chernobyl accident in the context of contemporary challenges in preventive medicine\u00bb clearly demonstrated the Institute\u2019s significant experience and potential from the moment of the accident through to the mitigation of its consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, the Institute\u2019s Laboratory of Radiation Hygiene was the only unit in Ukraine capable of measuring the level of radioactive contamination and assessing the events that had occurred. In the first months following the accident, the Institute\u2019s specialists worked around the clock to receive, process, and carry out measurements of samples of water, soil, plants, food products, and raw materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on the scientific research carried out, the Institute\u2019s specialists developed and implemented the methodological guidelines \u00abAssessment of the Radiation Situation in the Environment\u00bb, which remain relevant and essential for practical work today, especially given the current challenges facing preventive medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
