A separate part of this research is dedicated to identifying risk and protective factors for mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 2022 and 2025, more than 7,000 parents of schoolchildren from different regions of Ukraine were surveyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The most acute situation<\/strong> with regard to children&#8217;s mental health indicators was observed in 2022\u20132023:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>12-16% of children had symptoms of anxiety disorders (almost twice as many as before 2020).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>28-29% of children had symptoms of depressive disorders (3.6 times more than before 2020).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A positive trend emerged<\/strong> in 2024: the level of anxiety in children returned to pre-pandemic levels (about 9% of children); the proportion of children with depressive symptoms decreased to 17%, but this is still twice as high as before the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In 2025<\/strong>, the proportion of children with anxiety symptoms decreased further to 6%, but the proportion of children with depressive symptoms remained at the 2024 level (16.5%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Multivariate analysis was used to identify risk factors and protective factors for children&#8217;s mental health:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Risk factors for children&#8217;s mental health are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>anxiety and depression in parents,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>chronic illness in the child,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lack of a stable place to study at home (during distance learning),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>specific war factors, such as separation from family, shelling, lack of basic needs for food, water, heat, and light.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Protective factors for children&#8217;s mental health include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>sufficient sleep (about 8 hours per day for high school students, 9 hours for middle school students, 10 hours for elementary school students),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>regular physical activity (at least 60 minutes daily\u2014sports, dancing, active games, i.e., moderate to high-intensity physical activity),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>walks in the fresh air at least 5 days a week (at least 50 minutes per outing),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>daily personal communication with friends, peers, and family<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>social support;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>psychological tools at school, in particular, so-called \u00abpsychological moments\u00bb (breathing exercises, music therapy, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So, what can adults do to preserve children&#8217;s mental health?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Parents \u2014 take care of their own mental health, maintain a daily routine for their children, organize a permanent place for children to study at home, and maintain active communication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educators \u2014 introduce psychological practices during the learning process, create a friendly and safe environment in educational institutions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local authorities should organize sports and social events and support families with children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical professionals should inform the public and implement preventive measures to preserve and strengthen children&#8217;s health.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More detailed information is available at the following links:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>on the connection between lifestyle and children&#8217;s mental health:<br><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.32402\/dovkil2024.01.018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/doi.org\/10.32402\/dovkil2024.01.018<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on the effectiveness of psychological tools (\u00abpsychological moments\u00bb) in the learning process:<br><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.32782\/pub.health.2024.2.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/doi.org\/10.32782\/pub.health.2024.2.1<\/a><\/strong><br><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.32345\/2664-4738.4.2024.09\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/doi.org\/10.32345\/2664-4738.4.2024.09<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on the impact of communication on students&#8217; mental health:<br><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.30888\/2663-5712.2024-24-00-078\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/doi.org\/10.30888\/2663-5712.2024-24-00-078<\/a><\/strong><br>Our laboratory has also prepared a series of informational and scientific-methodological materials and publications on the prevention of health disorders in children and young people.
